Digital Radiography
Seattle, WA

Image of rendering of jaw with dental bridge at Queen Anne Family Dental in Seattle, WA.Did you know that more than three-quarter of all adults in the United States have at least one x-ray during their lives? It is great to take inside pictures, don’t you think? We take pictures of the inside of your body to let us know what is going on. X-rays are a great diagnostic tool for doctors to use, so we know what’s happening in your body. Your teeth are no exception. X-rays make great tools for us to see how we can best treat you.

Not too long ago, x-rays were painstakingly slow. We would take x-rays of your teeth, then we had to patiently wait to make sure they were clear. Sometimes, we had to call the patient back to retake x-rays after they left our office. We also had to call patients back in to fix problems we find in the x-ray. All of this took time.

Now, thanks to technology, we have new x-ray tools that are almost like a superpower. Do you want to learn more about digital radiography? Let Queen Anne Family Dental give you more information about digital x-rays.

What Are Digital X-Rays?

Digital x-rays are one of the latest advances in dental technology in our office. They have been around for about 10 years. Digital radiography allows us to use a sensor to take pictures in your mouth. No more dental film. The pictures are ready in seconds, which means if they aren’t clear, we can immediately retake them. Then we can move the x-rays into your file, so they are always available.

If you think about it, x-rays from your past were a pain. You had to bite on film, sometimes more than once if the film wasn’t clear enough. You had to bite down on a piece of film at least four times. We could take mostly clear pictures of your teeth and gums, as well as your jaw. But we couldn’t zoom in or out. We couldn’t focus or enlarge an area we were worried about. With digital radiography, all of those problems are resolved.

Why We Love Digital Radiography

We think digital radiography is great for several reasons. First, they lower your exposure to radiation, which is always a good thing. We don’t want you to get any more radiation in you than is necessary. We also use digital radiography to view any parts of your teeth, gums, and jaw we are worried about. No more waiting for days to look at x-rays. Digital radiography means we can spot and fix little problems before they become big problems.

Because digital x-rays are available immediately, we can use them as a diagnostic tool on the spot. We can begin to treat you for whatever ails your mouth the day you come in. This is a great leap because we might not spot the problem with the initial exam. But your x-ray might reveal a problem, such a cavity. The sooner we can spot trouble, the sooner we can fix problems in your mouth.
